Useful Advices For Travellers

Beware of pickpockets. Be especially careful when using public transport in Budapest, or in crowds near the sights.

Keep an eye on your bag at all times.

Keep your money and valuables hidden, e.g. in a pouch hung around your neck.

To avoid being unpleasantly surprised in restaurants afterwards, always check the price of the meal on the bill of fare before ordering it.

If you, as a man, happen to be invited to dinner by pretty, young women in the street in Budapest, don't necessarily attribute this to your personal charm. The ladies may have a rather prosaic reason for doing so: they are trying to seduce you into going to an expensive place of amusement.

There is no advantage to changing money at railway stations, airports and border crossing points. Much better rates of exchange are offered in the numerous exchange offices in the Budapest city centre. When changing money, study the list of exchange rates first, and make sure, you are given the proper amount of money.

Know that taxis ordered by phone are cheaper than hailed ones.

Hailing a taxi on the street, before getting in, ask the driver, how much the fare approximately will be.

Consider parking your car at parking garages attended 24 hours a day. This costs as much as, or just slightly more than parking in the city centre, but as parking time is limited there, you will not need to buy timed tickets every two hours. Safety goes first.

Dont't leave valuables, especially cellular phones in your car.

Don't use your car, unless you are familiar with Budapest traffic conditions. Public transport is efficient, fast and cheap.
